Tasted at Château Batailley. A blend of 42% Merlot and 58% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 48hl/ha, this has an approachable, slightly leafy bouquet with tobacco and cedarwood. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, just a little austere, but nicely focused towards the finish to make this a classic, early drinking Pauillac. Fine, but you might as well pay up for the Grand Vine this year. Tasted March 2010
