Tasting notes
Full, deep red-ruby. Tangy black raspberry, black cherry and cassis aromas, with chocolate and tarry nuances. Juicy and intensely flavored; very ripe and just this side of liqueur-like. Offers a good combination of elegance and power, thanks to its ripe acidity. Finishes with very sweet tannins and noteworthy persistence.

Sporting an expressive nose of waxy black cherries, the broad, jammy 2003 Volnay Clos des Chenes (red) is seamless, filled with blueberries, and elegant. Light to medium-bodied it is silky-textured, fresh, and seductive. Drink this beauty over the next 7-8 years. Importers: Daniel Johnnes/Jeroboam Wines, New York, NY; tel. Good full red. Aromas of currant and chocolate. Rich, fat and chocolatey, but with a firm edge of acidity. Not yet especially complex. Finishes a bit more tannic than the Monthelie, but there's also more mid-palate flesh.
