Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

Still youthful and not yet fully mature, the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape (which includes all the grapes that would normally have gone into the declassified Cuvee Cadettes) is full-bodied and impeccably balanced, with a fresh, focused bouquet of cassis, licorice and charred meats. This cuvee always ages beautifully, and this is one of the more fresh, lively and focused 2007s out there--and it still has present tannin. It’s certainly enjoyable today but should be even better with a year or two of additional cellaring.

Showing similar to a year ago and boasting attractive, classy notes of crème de cassis and sweet black fruits, garrigue, creamy licorice, and spice box, the 2007 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape (48% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, and 1% Cinsault) is medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced, and has a silky, refined, and dare I say, elegant profile. Still primary, youthful, and wearing its oak elevage on its sleeve, yet with plenty of verve and energy, this needs 4-5 years of bottle age, and will drink well through 2025.

48% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, and others. Surprisingly floral nose with a touch of coffee and spice. Fresh and silky. Fine tannins, long and rounded. (JH)
