The 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Classique reveals a dark ruby color with a pink rim. Its superb aromatics offer notions of roasted herbs, meat juices, sweet cherries, pepper, and spice box. Full-bodied, fleshy, and charming, with no hard edges and plenty of glycerin, it will drink well for a decade. Full medium ruby. Aromas of roasted red fruits, leather and dark chocolate. Dense and supple in the mouth, with leather and meat flavors. Could use a bit more intensity and verve, but this is pliant and accessible. Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins. I get the impression that this fruit was picked on the early side.
