The 1967 La Fleur Petrus was tasted from magnum with Edouard Moueix—a "test run" because it was one of the wines they were considering to pour at the forthcoming Académie du Vin dinner. Well, it would be a right choice. The 1967 vintage was actually a good one in Pomerol and Sauternes alone. The bouquet is charming—old school, for sure—but so fresh and vital; with vestiges of mulberry and Earl Grey, it is beautifully defined and developed iris scents as it opened in the glass. The palate is, again, very fresh and lively, with the larger format probably coming into play. What was magical about this wine is the manner in which it improved in the glass, as if gaining substance from the ether. Faint touches of dark fruit, a tang of seaweed, Japanese green tea and truffle. It was an absolutely delicious 1967 Pomerol. The impeccable provenance plus format probably shone it in the best light possible. Nevertheless, what a joy! Tasted March 2017.

The 1967 La Fleur-Pétrus is a wine I have tasted twice from magnum, one with Edouard Moueix and the other at the Académie du Vin dinner. This note comes from the latter, but they are virtually identical. The charming, old-school bouquet remains fresh and vigorous, with remnants of mulberry mixed with Earl Grey. It is beautifully defined and evolves iris scents as it opens. The palate is fresh, lively and meliorates magnificently with aeration, gaining substance, fruité and touches of raspberry and black plum tinged with kelp and Japanese green tea. The 1967 Pomerol is delicious. Undoubtedly, its impeccable provenance and format showed it in its most positive light. Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner.
About the producer
Château La Fleur-Pétrus was the first acquisition of many in Pomerol by Jean Pierre Moueix, who went on to own Château Trotanoy, Château Hosanna and most notably Pétrus. Jean Pierre Moueix was born in Corèzze in moved to Saint-Émilion with his parent in 1929 following the Great Depression.
