Lafleur-Gazin is making better and better wines, and their 2001 is probably as good as their 2000. Exhibiting more structure and tannin than it did prior to bottling, it possesses a deep ruby color with purple nuances as well as aromas of licorice, plums, cherries, incense, and earth. Medium-bodied, with a ripe attack, this elegant effort’s structure and tannin closes down the finish. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 10-12.

Mid intensity of colour. Broad, creamy, then relatively lightweight. Good balance and breadth of flavour. Chewy end. Very slight hole in the middle. (JR)

Good bright red. Redcurrant, cherry, coffee and flowers on the high-pitched nose. Sweet, chewy and firm, with flavors of berries, meat and red licorice. A bit monolithic thus far but shows reasonable body and sweetness, and solid underlying structure.
