Score 88/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2009

Good medium ruby-red. Wild aromas of roasted red berries, hot stones and smoky herbs, with a slightly rustic leather and game quality that carries through onto the palate. A bit unrefined but supple, ripe and sweet, with a lush quality but also good definition to the flavors of earth, smoke and roasted herbs. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length. Very Graves in character, and long on personality.

From another up-and-coming estate in the northern Graves they also turn out a very fine dry white wine with Stephane Derenoncourt as their consultant, this blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon possesses sweet tannins, a lush, savory mid-palate, ripe fruit, and plenty of sweet cherry and black currant fruit interwoven with subtle notes of scorched earth and smoked herbs. Round, elegant, and pure, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5-7 years. Good value.

(75% merlot and 25% cabernet sauvignon, from vines averaging 15 years of age; planted on clay and gravel soil between Smith Haut Lafitte and Carbonnieux) Medium red-ruby. Superripe black raspberry aroma conveys an element of surmaturite Lush, broad and opulent; boasts uncanny volume and fat for the vintage. A voluptuously ripe wine that finishes with roasted notes of hot rocks and woodsmoke. Does this have enough lift? This is Stephane Derenoncourt's second vintage here as consultant.
