Tasting notes
A brilliant silver/yellow color, the NV Champagne Blanc De Blancs release is based on the 2018 vintage and comes from Avize, Mesnil, and Oger. It boasts a very pretty, very floral perfume, with notes of fresh linen, baby powder, fresh pear, melon, and white flowers. The palate reveals the mineral terroir of the Côte des Blancs, with a chalky and linear feel as well as a note of lime candies. It retains a lovely core and has a good balance throughout. This can be enjoyed now, but its nerve gives it the ability to age over the coming 8-10 years. 7 grams per liter dosage.

Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs, based on the 2018 vintage and complemented by 15% reserve wines from 2017 and 2016, is sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Oger. Disgorged in early 2023 with seven grams per liter dosage, it offers aromas of candied lemon peel, honeysuckle and sweet pastries. Medium to full-bodied, with a rich core of fruit but a refreshing, delicately chalky finish, it’s a cuvée that, for most people, defines Delamotte. In years when Salon is not made, it’s the NV Blanc de Blancs that incorporates the fruit from the 19 parcels in Le Mesnil that inform Salon. It will be even better with additional time post disgorgement.
This is always an excellent blanc de blancs, with sliced apple, lemon and other citrus fruit, as well as mineral and chalk. It's medium-bodied with lovely density and a fine, creamy texture. Energetic and translucent. 4 years on the yeast and 100% grand cru. Drink or hold.
En-magnum. Base vintage 2017. 100% grand cru Chardonnay. 48 months on lees, disgorged July 2022. Dosage 7 g/l. 35% of the Delamotte production. You can really feel the extra year on lees here compared with the Brut NV blend. Ultra-classy – a very fine Chardonnay made even better (I suspect) by the magnum. Weighty yet textured on the palate with a fine mousse and thread of minerals with a hint of salinity. Would show up many a vintage champagne from other houses. (AWH)
