Score 95/100 · Drink 2018-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2014

An exotic, beguiling beauty, the 2011 Chambertin graces the palate with an exotic melange of graphite, blood orange, violets, minerals, rose petals and plums. The 2011 isn't quite as rich as the 2010 or the 2012, but in exchange it will drink well earlier than either of those wines. The inclusion of 30% whole clusters adds gorgeous aromatic lift and presence. The voluptuous, textured finish is impossible to resist. Today, the Chambertin is magnificent.

This is also exceptionally spicy and more expressive than recently bottled Chambertin typically is with a pretty nose of earth, plum, floral notes and cassis nuances. There is plenty of concentration to the very serious and almost painfully intense broad-shouldered flavors that display excellent precision on the austere, backward and brooding finish. This is an interesting wine at present as the nose is open yet the palate impression is compact and quite closed. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2026+
