Score 16.5/20 · Drink 2013-2018, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2014

Made by Drew Noon MW. 82% Grenache, 13% Shiraz, 5% Graciano. McLaren Vale, although labelled South Australia. Sandy loam over clay. 80 m above sea level. 1,800 vines/ha. Pruning: bush vines, spur pruned. Yields 30 hl/ha. Fermented in open vats. 18 months in old oak. Bottled October 2012. pH 3.62, TA 5.4 g/l, RS 1.8 g/l. Annual production 9,000 bottles. Organic but not certified. There was a rare sighting of Mr and Mrs Drew Noon MW in Florence. Dark rusty colour. Exceptionally subtle nose insinuates itself gently and then – crash, bang, wallop – the alcohol and sweetness really make their presence felt on the palate! Dusty lusciousness and subtle flavours on the palate too. Most unusual even if the finish is a tad hot. (JR)

(made from 81% grenache, 13% shiraz and 6% graciano and aged in a combination of French and American oak): Bright ruby-red. Heady, floral- and spice-accented aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, lavender and musky herbs. Stains the palate with sweet red fruit liqueur flavors that are given depth by notes of licorice and espresso. Smooth, seamless and spicy on the finish, with excellent clarity and persistence.

Made from a blend of 82% Grenache, 13% Shiraz and 5% Graciano fruit all from Noon’s McLaren Vale Estate vineyards, the 2011 Noon Eclipse is pale to medium garnet-purple colored with pronounced notes of black pepper, kirsch, black raspberries and mulberries over nuances of lavender, Provence herbs, and underbrush plus a whiff of orange zest. Very full bodied and opulent in the mouth, it has red berry preserve flavors complemented by an array of exotic spices and floral notes that are supported by refreshing, balanced acid and a medium level of finely grained tannins. It finishes very long. It is delicious now, though it will reward with cellaring and drink best from 2015 to 2028+. Importer: Ronnie Sanders, Vine Street Imports, Philadelphia, PA; www.vsimports.com
