Score 86+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Medium bright ruby. Cool aromas of black cherry, chicory and menthol. Sweet but only moderately dense flavor of kirsch; distinctly liqueur-like flavors but a bit hollow in the middle. Then finishes with rather fierce tannins that dry the palate. Thunevin harvested these vines on September 13, which he admitted was too early.

About the producer

Valandraud
One of the first garage wines, Ch. Valandraud was created by Jean-Luc Thunevin – Saint-Emilion’s “bad boy”. Today the style of the wine is much more restrained, and officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate.
