There is a hint of the herbal character that typifies many '04s but I stress that it is a nuance and by no means dominant and allows the otherwise pretty and spicy red berry fruit and wet stone aromas to shine. The refined, cool and still notably reserved medium-bodied flavors are delicious though there is a hint of that same herbal character that was found on the nose present on the lightly acid-tinged finish that is tangy but not sharp. As the description suggests this is on the awkward side at present and clearly still needs a few years of cellar time to round out the structure.

Good full red. Slightly reduced but complex aromas of black fruits, pepper, violet and minerals. Supple and deep, with a fine-grained texture and solid underlying structure. As creamy as this is, it remains light on its feet. Finishes very long and subtle, with a whiplash of pepper and mineral flavors conveying an impression of strong extract.

The first wine to display noticeable reduction yet it's immediately clear that this is perhaps as ripe as the Corton with its ripe black fruit aromas that manage to fight their way through the reductive funk. The big, rich, well-muscled and extraordinarily precise full-bodied flavors possess the same sense of underlying reserve and coolness as the Cros and this finishes with a linear and reserved but impeccably well-balanced finale that is trimmed in a deft touch of wood. Extremely promising and one of the wines of the vintage. Allen Meadows, Burghound Jan01,2006
