Tasting notes
The 2003 Series C is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec aged for 24 months in French oak. Still surprisingly youthful in colour, it has a refined bouquet with strong floral scents, wilted violet petals intermingling with black cherries and cassis. Returning after 30 minutes that is a lifted camphor scent emerging. The palate is soft in texture, quite meaty on the entry with moderate acidity, a little earthy with cloves and white pepper furnishing the finish. Fully mature but offering much pleasure, drink this over the next four to five years.

This apparently didn’t sell when released so they reduced the price dramatically. Sweet and a bit simple. Fine to enjoy now, spicy and chewy but far from the most complex Cape red – though no burnt rubber! (JR)
