Score 86/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2013

This 1988, which would have been made by Martin-s father Andre, has a Bovril scent on the nose, rather bretty and farmyard-like, yet not without bucolic charm, and left for one hour, pleasant scents of Tiptree raspberry jam emerge. The palate is actually much better, with plenty of sappy ripe black fruit and a decent grip on the drying finish. This is a rather coarse Clos-de-Beze, but it continues to offer vestiges of pleasure. Tasted September 2013. Domaine Bart is an unfamiliar grower to this writer, but I discovered that the grandfather of incumbent proprietor, Martin Bart, was no less than the -Clair- in Domaine Clair-Dau, the grand estate that ultimately begat Domaine Bruno Clair. Based in Marsannay, they own 0.42-hectares of Clos-de-Beze.

Score 86/100 · Drink 1991-2000, Robert Parker, Jan 1990

The Chambertin-Clos de Beze is excellent, but I expect profound wine at these prices, particularly in a fine vintage such as 1988. It is moderately concentrated and medium bodied with a big, chocolatey, herb-scented bouquet, oaky, berry flavors, and a fine finish. It should be at its best between 1991 and 2000. I would expect this wine to be even better given the price.
