Tasting notes
From a 1.3ha plot. Great nose with lots of complexity. Baked plums, nuts, hint of spice, cream. Powerful but also very fine. Big but glides across the palate. Really long. Great balance and integration. FINE+RARE

Faiveley’s 2007 Chambertin Clos de Bèze (magnum) is surprisingly soft, floral and silky, with plenty of high-toned aromatics and sweet red berry fruit, but little of the gravitas that is typical of Bèze. The 2007 offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal. Although not particularly expressive of site, the 2007 Bèze is a pretty wine if taken on its own terms. 92
Medium red. Soil-driven aromas of raspberry, mocha, smoke, spices, flowers and licorice. Rich, pliant and generous; large-scaled and fat with fruit. This silky wine is wonderfully plump for 2007 and yet its sweetness is restrained. The seamless, sappy finish conveys a tactile impression of extract and an iodiney quality.
Saturated dark red. Knockout nose combines liqueur-like raspberry, coffee, smoke, licorice and brown spices. Tightly coiled and powerful, conveying an impression of energy but at the same time sweeter and more harmonious than the Mazis. Perhaps best today on the extremely long, palate-staining finish, which features an almost electric impression of precision and complex suggestions of minerals, coffee and spices. Hervet describes 2007 as a vintage that offers great transparency of terroir, and this wine could serve as Exhibit A.
