Good full red; not too clear. Flamboyant aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat, black olive, wild herbs, licorice and dark chocolate. Wonderfully silky, full and sweet, but with strong acid bite to cut to leaven the impression of sucrosité . ("These 2002s are really showing their acidity now more than they did in the beginning," noted Nicolas Groffier.) Mineral and floral elements contribute to the impression of inner-mouth tension and draw out the finish of this beauty.

Dee p red. Cool, precise aromas of cherry, rose petal, iron and smoke. Supple, youthful and compellingly perfumed in the mouth, with subdued but very pure flavors of black cherry, smoke and mint. Harmonious acidity gives the wine brilliant definition and class. Very long and subtle on the aftertaste. The Groffiers appear to prefer this to the Bonnes-Mares in 2002, but give the edge to the Bonnes-Mares in 2003.

The licorice and lively red fruit-scented 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze is a gorgeously powerful wine. Medium to full-bodied, expansive, intensely concentrated, and chunky, this gem also appears to have loads in reserve. Copious quantities of spice-laced dark fruits can be discerned in its intense personality. Its exceptionally long finish reveals perfectly ripened tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2017. Good medium-deep red. Liqueur-like fruits, mocha and soil tones on the nose. Silky and supple on entry, then minty and firm-edged toward the back, with an impression of higher acidity than the wines from Chambolle-Musigny. Firmly tannic and closed today. Still showing the effects of the recent sulfuring.
