2000 Nuits St Georges Les St Georges

Deep ruby-red. Sappy aromas of red fruits, minerals, coffee and dark chocolate. Creamy-sweet and fat, with a liqueur-like ripeness but also terrific purity of flavor. Boasts explosive inner-mouth perfume. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and terrific length. (The same wine from a new Allier barrel showed similar aromatics but was tougher and less sweet in the mouth, and showed a considerably stronger oak component.) My score is for the single barrel, which will be bottled on its own.
