The 1999 Montrachet Grand Cru from Louis Jadot was drinking extremely well. Mint and fennel on the nose, touches of almond and grilled walnut following through later, there is a hell of a lot going on here. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth, developing a waxy texture in the mouth with Conference pear and cooking apple towards the weighty, quite penetrating finish. This is an excellent Montrachet from Jadot, even if it does not possess the killer tension of the very top white Burgundies. Tasted November 2016.

Notably green to look at though no suggestion of greenness of flavour . The nose is broad and smoky with more perceptible oak influence than most. Already quite rich and charming on the palate – surprisingly different from the Louis Latour example even though they may be both be based on the same initial grapes. (Perhaps the grapes come from very different sections of the vineyard.) The palate starts rich and then becomes earthy and toasty. Still very, very youthful. (JR)

Softly perfumed, highly nuanced aromas of honeysuckle, ripe peach and mango followed by big, rich, concentrated flavors of limestone, citrus and lightly charred oak. There seems to be an inexhaustible reserve of deep, rich, sappy flavors that offer both power and precision and a fine, subtle finishing note of minerality. This is not the most powerful Montrachet Jadot has ever made but I very much like the style here as there is both elegance and finesse yet plenty of flavor authority. Relatively approachable for young Montrachet but I suspect this will live for a very long time, given the solid core of sap and spicy fruit. Allen Meadows, Burghound Jul01,2001

Harvested at 13.6% natural potential alcohol, the 1999 Montrachet has a magnificent spice cake, almond paste, and hazelnut-laden nose. Medium to full-bodied and suggestive of drinking liquid velvet, this is a big, deep, broad, and well-focused wine. Pears, apples, stones, and a myriad of spices can be found throughout its highly expressive and flavorful character. It is a huge success for the vintage, and an exceptional wine in its own right. It should stand the test of time. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2014. Wine Advocate.February, 2001
