Score 88/100 · Drink 2003-2007, Robert Parker, Feb 2003

Readers looking for a tank-fermented and aged, 100% Syrah bursting with blackberry fruit should check out the 2001 Cotes du Rhone. It possesses good acidity, loads of fruit, not a great deal of complexity, but considerable body, sweetness, and glycerin. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. A Syrah such as this from California would cost $35-$50! If you have not yet tried the wines of St.-Cosme, you're missing the boat. (100% syrah) Bright ruby-red. Varietally accurate aromas of black cherry, licorice, leather and smoked meat; slightly medicinal. Lush, layered and sweet, with notes of red fruits, chocolate and leather. Slightly rustic but dense and strong.
