Decadent aromas of ripe fruits and meats. Some white truffle, too. Full body with round, ripe tannins and a juicy finish. Needs at least until 2017 to resolve the slightly edgy tannins. Stylish all the same.

The estate's 2010 Barbaresco Sorì Paitin is stunningly beautiful. Layers of fruit blossom in a large-scaled, dramatic Barbaresco endowed with tremendous depth and pure structure. Balsamic-inflected plums, tobacco, leather, spices and licorice meld together in the glass. The 2010 Sorì Paitin is huge, powerful and drop-dead gorgeous. Sweet menthol, pine and wild flowers adds finesse on a finish that is all about power. The structure of the vintage comes through in spades. The 2010 spent 24 months in cask. (AG)

The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years' time. (AG)

Barbaresco. Pale but youthful-looking ruby. Liquorice fruit. Rustic, perhaps even coarse, on the finish. (WS)
