Tasted blind. Very dark blackish crimson. Looks pretty youthful. Unexpectedly muted nose. Well-balanced palate with lots of density and lots of tannin – very much in the mould of what one would expect from a 2005. Much less developed than most other lesser St-Émilions, but a bit dead on the end. (JR)

Deep purplish crimson. Rather raw on the nose and green though there is certainly ripe fruit and energy here. (JR)

Good medium ruby. Lively aromas of wild blackberry, minerals and violet (this has 40% cabernet franc); smells austere. Then sweet, bright and penetrating, with lovely energy and minerality to the dark berry flavors. A very ripe wine that finishes with palate-coating tannins and very good thrust. Consulting enologist Stephane Derenoncourt predicts that this will go truffley with a decade of cellaring.

A pleasant, one-dimensional St.-Emilion, the 2005 Tertre Daugay reveals aromas of herbs, sweet cherries, loamy soil, and a hint of spice. Drink it over the next decade.
