The 2010 La Gomerie has a light but focused bouquet with scents of wild strawberry, raspberry preserve and cedar, a touch of mint emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, supple tannins. Slightly bitter in the mouth, it has a decent black pepper-tinged finish, but what is missing is real length. I suspect this might be on the downhill slope. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Made of 100% Merlot, the deep garnet colored 2010 La Gomerie gives up notions of prunes, baked blackberries and raisin cake with touches of hoisin and sautéed herbs. Full-bodied with a rock-solid frame of chewy tannins and bold freshness, it has plenty of savory, mature fruit expression and an herbal lift on the finish.
Tasted blind. More crimson than Le Dôme. A marked eucalypt note. Sweet and almost minty. Firm, meaty and a touch of Marmite (yeast extract). Slightly bitter finish, tannins thick yet smoothed. (JH)
Mid to dark crimson. Ripeness plus the merest hint of rawness on the nose – odd! Some chocolate-covered-raisin quality here. Lots of flesh in the modern style. Slightly bitter finish. But fluid and juicy and appealing. (JR)
