The 2006 Meursault Les Chevalières sports Jean-François Coche’s trademark reductive tincture on the nose, struck match scents complemented by tangerine and a hint of menthol. The palate comes across as very well balanced with notes of lemon sherbet and stem ginger. The most noticeable aspect of this wine is how backward and un-evolved it is compared to its peers, as if there has been little movement in recent years. It is a Meursault that seems happy in its place and despite being only a Village Cru, will have a surprisingly long life. Tasted at Tin Dinh restaurant in Paris.

Reticent aromas of wet stone, minerals and menthol; nothing particularly spicy or exotic about this one! Then sweet and lush on entry but with beautifully integrated acidity giving this fat, full wine freshness and considerable early appeal (or at least one can taste this wine today). Finishes sweet, very long and smooth.
Really lifted nose – positively prancing. Racy flavours and acidity yet with a really satiny texture. Very firm finish. Chewy and chalky. A real thoroughbred performance here – positively glides along. (JR)
