Score 95/100 · Drink 2026-2044, Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate, Oct 2025

Disgorged in January 2025 with a dosage of seven grams per liter, the forthcoming NV Grand Siècle N°27 already demonstrates considerable promise. A blend of the 2015, 2013 and 2012 vintages—predominantly anchored in the youngest—it draws from eight villages, comprising 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, with an intentional emphasis on Chardonnay to counterbalance the concentration of Pinot Noir. The 2015 imparts expressiveness, echoing the 2012, while the cool, late-ripening 2013 contributes freshness and cut. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, peach, lemon confit and freshly baked bread, framed by a subtle smoky reduction, it is full-bodied and concentrated, built around a generous and charming core of fruit, underpinned by tangy acidity driving toward a long, resonant finish. Slightly fleshier and broader shouldered than the Grand Siècle N°24 tasted alongside, it indicates yet another distinguished Grand Siècle in the making.

60% 1999, 20% 1997, 20% 1996. 54% Chardonnay from Avize, Cramant, Oger, Les-Mesnil-sur-Oger. 46% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, Bouzy, Tours-sur-Marne, Mailly. Not sure of the disgorgement date but earlier than the February 2025 quoted! Smoky citrus nose and very fresh. A little tight rather than ample. Refreshing but a little skinny. (JR)

A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir in a magnum bottle, the NV Grand Siècle N°20 is showing beautifully today, revealing a complex, spicy bouquet of almonds, pastry, mirabelle, menthol and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and layered, it has broad shoulders and deep, vinous core of fruit, with a pinpoint mousse and racy acids that enhance a long, mineral, gently beeswax-inflected finish. This is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, disgorged with a dosage of six grams per liter.

The NV Champagne Grand Siècle Grand Cuvée No. 20 will be released later this year or in early 2023. It is from three vintages – 1999, which was a vintage of finesse and elegance; 1997, which contributes tension and focus; and 1996, a powerful vintage included in a bit lower proportion so as not to overwhelm the other two in the blend. It has 6 grams per liter of dosage. Layered and complex, it is a great way to see a wine with more maturity, with both savory and fresh perfume of flint, custard, lemon verbena, and apricot, and it t is fresh on the palate with pear, lime pith, and a rich chalky texture. Though I somewhat prefer the refinement of the 23 and the balance of the 25, this offers a wonderful opportunity to have something to drink now while waiting for the others to show their full scope. Drink 2022-2036.
