Score 89/100 · Drink 2005-2015, Robert Parker, Oct 2005

The antithesis of the Bin 128 is Penfolds’ 2002 Shiraz Bin 28 Kalimna, which comes from warmer vineyards. A fuller-bodied effort, it possesses sweet berry and plum-like fruit, notions of white chocolate and pepper, a deeper, fleshier feel in the mouth, good exuberance, and a chunky personality. It should age for a decade or more. Importer: PWG Vintners, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 996-4504

Medium ruby. Black cherry, toasty oak, dark chocolate and a subtle leathery note on the nose. Quite thick on the palate, with concentrated flavors of dark plum and bitter chocolate, along with a slight raisiny quality. Chunky and solid on the back end, conveying a distinctly ripe tone.
