Meaty, smoky, earthy, slightly rustic red fruits with peppery spices and green olive accents are in the perfume and on the medium-bodied, palate. Perhaps, a bit more interesting on the nose, over the palate, which ends with a dryness to the finish. The wine is fully mature. Drink from 2023-2030.

A forward, sexy-style Cote Rotie that shows more oomph than most in the vintage, Jamet's 2000 Cote Rotie offers the hallmark complexity of the estate with its perfumed raspberry, game, flowers, olives and peppery bouquet. This carries to a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, seamless wine that has excellent purity, low acidity and tons of charm. Probably closest in style to the 1990, drink this character-filled beauty over the coming 5-7 years.
Dark crimson. Zesty, exciting blend of the sap and savour of the appellation with the concentration of slightly more modern winemaking than some. Lovely salty undertow of north Rhône Syrah with a very slightly burnt edge. Well-made classic! (JR)
Component #1, from "white" soils: Deep ruby-red. Aromas of raspberry and pepper. Juicy but somewhat lean flavors of red berries and leather. A bit lacking in sweetness and flesh. The only one of these components that was destemmed. Component #2 (from several parcels, including Chavaroche): Deeper medium ruby. Riper, more aromatic nose of black raspberry, game and leather. Creamier and sweeter in the mouth, but still rather reserved. Solidly structured and stuffed with fruit. Finishes with fine tannins and very good length. #3 (mostly Fontgent): Full medium ruby. Wild aromas of raspberry, woodsmoke, game and fresh blood; somewhat reduced but already compelling. Thick and ripe but sappy; lush and enveloping. A very harmonious sample, finishing with big but thoroughly ripe tannins. #4 (Chavaroche with a bit of Cote Roziers): Bright ruby-red. More reticent aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and blood sausage. Dense but lively and penetrating, with firmer acidity than the Fontgent sample. Still rather tight but shows lovely sweetness and finishes with very good grip and length. #5 (Landonne and Moutonne, aging in mostly new barriques Saturated dark ruby. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, dark chocolate and charry oak. Fat, dense and sappy, but somewhat awkward today. Finishes with chewy tannins and subtle persistence. An approximation of the final wine: Bright full ruby. Subtle aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, leather, pepper and spicy oak. Fairly full but not yet expressive; shows as much spice and pepper as fruit in the middle palate. Finishes with broad, ripe, spreading tannins. A harmonious, enveloping wine that will benefit from nine more months of elevage The bottled wine will carry about 12.7% alcohol.
