Pale, almost colourless. Merest hint of reduction. Some sweetness on the front palate. Hint of cheesiness and grip. Light burgundy funk. Then heat. Sweet at the beginning and end – not particularly fine. Hot finish. (JR)

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners Kumeu/White Burgundy tasting. The 2009 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières from Bouchard has a delightful bouquet with strong floral scents, hints of white peach and lemongrass developing with aeration alongside a light cockleshell influence. The palate is medium-bodied and leesy in the mouth. It does not quite have the natural mineralité of the 2009 Matés Vineyard Chardonnay tasted alongside, though there is appreciable weight and concentration on the finish, if not the finesse. Nevertheless, this remains a commendable, well-crafted Meursault Perrières, a vineyard that has long been one of Bouchard's strongest offerings.

Pale, bright yellow. Delicate aromas of white peach and crushed stone. Rich, intensely flavored and vibrant, conveying more energy and personality today than the Genevrieres. Strong minerality buffers the wine's huge ripeness and frames and extends the bracing finish. A superb showing but there's more to come with bottle aging.

Fragrant with lemon and a lightly floral note, touch of oak creaminess. Really fragrant. Soft, some oak spice, creamy leesy texture and just-fresh finish. A fine hint of orange on the long finish.(JH)
