Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières from Vicent Girardin has a much more feminine, almost dainty bouquet compared to Bouzereau’s and Comtes-Lafon’s, but I appreciate the detail here and the floral quality that combines nicely with the mineral aromas filtering through with aeration. The palate is tense and vibrant right from the start: a keen thread of acidity here, very good minerality and poise with a flourish of citrus peel, lemongrass and lime toward the persistent finish. This will need 3 or 4 years to fully coalesce, but it will be worth the wait.

Bright fresh yellow. Reticent aromas of citrus peel, white pepper and crushed stone. Densely packed but very backward, showing a strong saline quality to its flavors of crystallized lemon, lime and wet stone. Mounts slowly on the very subtle back end, ultimately saturating the mouth with dusty stone. This youthfully closed wine offers terrific potential.
(picked relatively late in 2011, on September 8): Bright yellow-green. Aromas of lime and hazelnut complicated by a sexy silex character. Thick on entry, then quite dry, bright and unforthcoming in the middle palate in spite of its glyceral texture. The rather austere finish features a mineral hardness and a late note of menthol. This long, subtle wine seems a bit out of whack today and needs more elevage.
This is both more elegant and somewhat surprisingly, a bit riper as well, with its aromas of citrus, Granny Smith apples, pear and pure floral nuances. There is an intense minerality underpinning the equally pure and beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors that possess better concentration and fine length on the clean, dry, saline and well-balanced finish. This isn't a truly stunning example of the appellation but it's more than competent. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2018+
