Tasting notes
Offering a complex bouquet, the dark garnet-colored 1997 Barolo Vigna Gancia reveals scents of balsam wood, herbs, licorice, cherry liqueur, and soy. Additionally, it possesses firm tannin, good density and ripeness, and a rich, medium to full-bodied, plush yet delineated personality. Give it 1-2 more years of cellaring, and consume it over the following 12-14 years. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. Deep red. Perfumed, deep aromas of cherry liqueur, red berries, licorice, flowers and truffle. Lush and chewy in the mouth, already quite aromatic and perfumed. Softer and sweeter than the '96, and more evolved, in the style of the '97 vintage. Finishes with dusty, gentle tannins.
