Lots of darker currants, cherry jam, truffle, and some herbal, even meaty notes emerge from the 2005 Château La Marzelle, a medium to full-bodied, ripe, mouthfilling, textured 2005. I like it today yet it should easily evolve for another 5-10 years.

The 2005 La Marzelle is a straight-forward, juicy Saint-Émilion. I would prefer to drink any remaining bottles over the next few years at most, before the fruit fades to further expose the angular contours that lurk beneath. I imagine the 2005 has seen better days.
Medium red-ruby. Aromas of currant, leather, coffee, smoke and tobacco. Silky in texture, but with firm acids framing the flavors of currant, plum, coffee bean and smoke. Finishes with mouthcoating, fine-grained tannins and good grip. No shortage of personality here.
Lots of toasty oak dominating the nose, vanilla sweetness. Firm, dry and balanced but a bit dull. (JH)
