Tasting notes
Score 90/100 · Drink 2012-2019, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2012

The 2010 G.V.B. (white blend) consists of 59% Semillon and 41% Sauvignon Blanc from the Schapenberg vineyard. It has a taut grassy, herbaceous bouquet with asparagus, grass clippings and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with a fine herbaceous entry, the acidity very well judged and the finish quite reserved and elegant, furnished with hazelnut, nectarine and spice notes. This is a refined white from Vergelegen. Drink now-2019. Vergelegen is one of South Africa's most reputed wineries and Andres van Rensberg one of its most opinionated and indeed, talented, winemaker. These are powerful South African wines packed full of flavor, but do not ignore some of the excellent whites that can get overlooked by the flagship labels. Importer: 57 Main Street Imports, Garden City, NY; tel (516) 357-2070.
