Tasting notes
The 2005 Venta Mazzarron is one of the finest values in Spanish wine. Made from 100% Tinta de Toro, it offers up a smoky, complex bouquet with notes of mineral and blackberry. Ripe, sweet, forward, and altogether pleasurable, it can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years. The region of Tierra del Vino de Zamora should have been included in the Toro D.O. but was overlooked when the boundaries were drawn. Vinas del Cenit has a total of 44 hectares, 15% of which are ungrafted 100 year old vines used to make Triton. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767

Lots of vanilla and a hint of chocolate at first, then sweet red fruit – like chocolate coated cherries. Fresh but still chocolately on the palate. Soft and rounded. Still seems very very youthful. A warm, rounded wine but just a little hot on the finish. (JH)
Inky ruby. Straightforward raspberry and blueberry preserve aromas are deepened by chocolate and espresso. Fleshy dark fruit flavors are smooth and round, finishing with very good depth and length.
