Tasting notes
The 2005 Cornas Les Eygats displays a dark ruby/purple hue, plenty of new oak, and hints of underbrush, forest floor, and earthy black fruits. There is some dryness and austerity in the finish. Importer: Russell Herman, Berkeley Heights, NJ; tel. (908) 771-9082

Bright ruby. Intense mineral and floral qualities complement fresh red and dark berries, with suave floral and smoked meat elements building with air. Plump dark berry liqueur flavor offers excellent depth and sweetness, with late-arriving tannins adding subtle grip. This is sexy stuff.
Inky ruby. Powerful, head-spinning aromas of creme de mure, blackberry and boysenberry, with very subtle woodsmoke and dark chocolate accents. Lush and remarkably sweet, offering a gaudy display of ripe, deeply concentrated blueberry and blackberry flavors and sexy vanillin oak. Really clings to the palate on the finish. There must be some tannin here but you'd have to dig through a ton of fruit to find it.
