60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. 40% new oak. 13.5% abv. Very ripe on the nose with showy fruit character and a touch of jam. Broad, fleshy and fruit-driven on the palate. Concentrated but needs time to settle down. FINE+RARE

The 2012 Pagodes de Cos has a light bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit, soy and confit-like aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with furry tannins, quite ferrous in style, though like the 2012 Les Ormes de Pez, it feels a little dry and charmless on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Relatively pale. Light in impact on the nose – more concentrated on the palate. Hint of bergamot. Very stony finish. Just a tad austere. (JR)

Tasted blind. Simple crimson. Smells of tea leaves. Then a bit of austere fruit. No attempt to polish the tannins here! A bit ungainly with a very drying finish. Appetising nose and masses of tannin. Was better when I returned to the glass and I marked it up from 16.5 – lots of vitality. (JR)
