Red-ruby color. Currant, chocolate and mint aromas. Fat, chewy and nicely concentrated, with roasted red berry and cocoa powder flavors. Impressive for this bottling, but doesn't have the structure or shape of the Valandraud.

Cool nose. Not especially warm and appealing. Rich, full and broad, but lots of acidity. Quite painful. (JR)
(70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc) Ruby-red. Cool aromas of cassis, blackberry, mint and violet, plus a note of chocolatey torrefaction. At once solid and rather suave, with a flavor of kirsch Firmly built and penetrating, and not at all heavy. Now made from a parcel in the vicinity of Rol Valentin and Peby-Faugeres, purchased by Jean-Luc Thunevin in 1998.
About the producer
One of the first garage wines, Ch. Valandraud was created by Jean-Luc Thunevin – Saint-Emilion’s “bad boy”. Today the style of the wine is much more restrained, and officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate.
