Tasting notes
The 2004 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spatlese A.P. #10, Willi Schaefer explains, “comes from a separate parcel where we selected a bit more rigorously and got a little bit of botrytis.” One again, the richness level is rising, and this wine offers a lovely counterpoint of creamy texture with bright citricity that is typical of many of the best 2004s. The aromas and flavors – in addition to vanilla – are more of baked apple, pralines and grapefruit marmalade than of crisp fresh fruits. The acidity is slightly softer than in the Domprobst Spatlesen #s 11 and 9, but the wine exhibits considerable refinement of mineral and fruit in the finish. Almost Sauvignon-like in its currant-leaf aromas – very racy and well etched. Positively bracing – a health drink. (JR)
