The 2000 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is bridled with a beautiful bouquet. There is wonderful delineation, quite ethereal in style with black cherries, cold stone and just a touch of rusty copper piping and later, black truffles and Italian delicatessen. These aromatics are mercurial and captivating. The palate does not quite match up. It has an edgy, tensile opening, a “bony” Mazis-Chambertin with brine-infused black fruit, then attenuating towards the second half where you would have liked to see more fleshy and weight. It’s a lovely Mazis-Chambertin on the nose, just very good on the palate. Tasted at Carré des Feuillants restaurant in Paris.
