Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2025, Neal Martin, Mar 2018

The 1995 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a winsome bouquet of crushed strawberry, cranberry and incense, a touch of reduction soon blowing off. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry, though juxtaposed against the 1996 Mazis-Chambertin, it is clear the 1995 does not possess the same level of precision and delineation. In addition, I found that this just tapers in towards the finish and leaves you wanting more. Whilst the 1996 has prospered over the last two decades, the 1995 feels a little compromised by its age and seems in gentle decline. 580 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.
