Tasting notes
The 2009 Mazis-Chambertin is all freshly cut flowers, rose petals, sweet spices and red berries. In 2009 the Mazis is the height of seduction. A weightless, totally gracious finish rounds out this nuanced, precise Burgundy. All of the elements are simply in the right place. Bernard Dugat's Mazis-Chambertin is one of the most compelling wines of the vintage.

Very good deep red. Insinuating, wild nose shows a syrah-like gamey aspect to the aromas of black raspberry, truffle and underbrush, plus a captivating suggestion of fresh almond paste. Then wonderfully silky, layered and deep, but a bit less complex in the mouth today than the nose would suggest. Surprisingly velvety in texture but really needs time in bottle to round out and gain in nuance. Finishes spicy and firm, with surprising lift.
Full red-ruby. Fascinating if rather unforthcoming aromas of black fruits, espresso, game and faded rose. Sweet and fat with fruit; quite large-scaled in the middle palate but currently cut off by strong, mouthcoating tannins and a mentholated aspect. This really resounds on the finish but will require extended aging.
