Score 95-97/100 · Drink 2029-2049, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, May 2011

The 2009 Mazoyeres-Chambertin is one of the most structured wines in this lineup. The concentration of fruit is beautifully balanced by the intense minerality of the wine. This really gains power and explosiveness on the palate-staining finish. The heavy presence of rocks in this site is felt in the salinity of the close. Finesse and power. It’s all there in the Mazoyeres. Dugat used 100% whole clusters here. Anticipated maturity: 2029-2049. Bernard Dugat farms 10 hectares of vineyards, 6.5 of which he and his family own outright. The Dugat-Py wines are breathtaking for their richness and depth. Despite their sheer concentration, the wines retain tons of vineyard and vintage character. These are some of the most viscerally thrilling, exciting wines I tasted on my recent trip through Burgundy. The only 2009 I wasn’t able to taste was the Pommard, which had been bottled just prior to my visit. Importer: The Sorting Table, LLC, 1700 Second Street Suite 380 Napa, CA 94559 ; tel: 707-603-1466

Medium red-ruby color. Wild, expressive nose combines blackberry, game, spices, coffee bean and minerals. Silky, lush and full; distinctly richer in the middle than the Charmes (which actually contains one-third Mazoyeres), with a velour-like texture that coats the palate. Finishes with a rocky sensation of power and broad, buffered tannins. Exciting potential here.

Since 2004 this has belonged to his sister, mother of Richard Seguin at Olivier Bernstein , but he says he doesn’t know what he does. 100% new oak. Race and minerality – quite sinewy. Rangy. Very refreshing and with an attractive dry finish. (JR)
