Score 89/100 · Drink 2020-2030, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

Offering up a aromas sweet berry fruit, plums, dark chocolate and a generous application of new oak, the 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a generous core of ripe fruit, succulent acids and a long, vanillin-inflected finish. This is one of the late Denis Mortet's wines that seems unlikely ever to fully digest its oak, but it remains a delicious drink.

(14.5%) Ruby-red. Roasted black fruits and a whiff of game on the nose. Rich, sweet, large-scaled and rather powerful, but finer than the Velle despite its high alcohol. More floral flavors of blackberry, violet, spices and bitter chocolate. Finishes with substantial but ripe tannins and impressive breadth.
