The most extroverted of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Crus, the 2012 Les Pucelles blossoms in all directions with intense, voluptuous fruit and dazzling texture. Mint, honey, hazelnut, pear and apricot notes abound in an intensely layered, resonant wine with more than enough depth to fill out its broad shoulders. A creamy, resonant finish rounds things out in style. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of white Burgundy will adore the Pucelles.

White orchard fruit and the hallmark honeysuckle scents give way to punchy and impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess a highly refined mouth feel if not the sheer depth of the Clos de la Mouchère. To be sure this is a lovely wine that could aptly be described as notably bigger and more powerful than is typical for Pucelles. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. Drink: 2018+
About the producer
Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
