The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Esprit flows with layers of mineral infused fruit in a rich, textured style that captures the essential beauty and depth of Chardonnay grown in Ay. This is a beautifully balanced, precise version of the Blanc de Blancs. Warm, toasty notes linger on the impeccable finish. This is lot 06K25E50, disgorged April 30, 2010. This is a very interesting producer indeed, based in Ay, not cheap but makes extremely fine wines in which oak casks play quite a part. Strictly speaking not a grower as some wines, and pretty much all the grapes for this bottling, I should think, are bought in. See earlier tasting notes. Esprit is their ‘value line’ and this Blanc de Blancs is the latest addition to it, not yet widely available. Very pale. Rather big bubbles. Well mannered Blanc de Blancs with a bit more depth than most, but not super refined in the context of these wines. (It compares well with standard grandes marques.) (JR)
The NV Brut Esprit is a gorgeous entry-level wine bursting with red fruit, pastry, sweet herbs and spices. There is nothing fancy here, rather this is a bold, immediate Champagne bursting with class and personality. The subtle, refined mousse lends an element of sophistication. This is an excellent introduction to the wines of Giraud. This is Lot O1M44E50. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Oct 2011, www.robertparker.com
