2009 Nuits St Georges Les Pruliers

The 2009 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet with ebullient red cherry, bergamot, crushed stone and light flinty aromas that just soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine thread of acidity, fine fruit concentration and yet, there is still a sense of reserve on the finish that is uncommon with the 2009 vintage. Give this two or three more years and it will repay you. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers is striking in its beauty. It boasts gorgeous weight and energy in an effortless style that is hugely appealing. Dark cherries, flowers, mint and crushed rocks are all woven together nicely in this energetic, vibrant Pruliers. The 2009 is drinking well today, but it will be even better in a few years’ time. Relatively deep crimson for a 2009. Very intense ripe aromas with a real come-on. Lots of clean fruit upfront and then some assertive structure. Lots of healthy fruit in the middle. The fruit here is a match for the tannins – great richness. But very slow burn. The Gouges extroversion continues... (JR)
