A good, possibly excellent effort, the 2010 Carillon d’Angelus is made from a selection from the larger Angelus vineyard, but it does not live up to the quality that vineyard routinely produces. Composed of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it offers lots of red and blue fruits along with medium body, but it seems somewhat monolithic and uncharacteristically straightforward for a wine from proprietor Hubert de Bouard. It should be consumed during its first 10-12 years of life.

Sweet, floral and soft wine. Very different in structure from the drying St-Émilions I have just tasted at Cercle Rive Droite. (Though it is a little bit dry on the end.) Very sweet overall. (JR)
