The 2001 Meursault Goutte d’Or reveals creamed minerals and sweet, spice-laced pears in its aromatics. Over-ripe, exotic flavors, such as pineapple, banana, and passion fruit are found in its detailed, deep, medium-bodied character. Drink this opulent wine over the next 7 years. Honey and spice characterize the nose of this chewy, mouth coating, enormously deep, muscular and broad shouldered flavors with a stunningly concentrated, rich and long back end. Still quite tight and indeed closed and could easily rival a great Bâtard in sheer size, depth, power and length though the flavor profile is different. A genuinely great effort.
