Tasting notes
The 2009 Beaune Les Greves is strikingly beautiful. Dark red cherries, flowers ad licorice flow from this soft, textured wine. The Greves impresses for its purity ad finesse. This is a brilliant showing. Hints of sweet hard candy linger on the textured, mineral-infused finish.

This is a brilliant showing. Hints of sweet hard candy linger on the textured, mineral-infused finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Etienne de Montille’s 2009 reds have developed beautifully since I last tasted them about six months ago. De Montille was among the very first growers to harvest in 2009. At the outset de Montille’s 2009s were a bit awkward, but today they have come together better than I expected. Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. (516) 327-0808
(vinified with two-thirds whole clusters): Good medium red. Sappy maraschino cherry and spices dominate the nose. Supple, fat and fruity, combining liqueur-like sweetness with a seamless texture. Finishes with smooth, building tannins.
Intense, very ripe fruit on the nose. Good freshness. Quite a nervy wine for a 2009 red. Still very youthful – a big contrast to the Sizies. (JR)
About the producer

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
