Score 90/100 · Drink 2021-2025, Neal Martin, May 2021

The 1990 Grand Mayne has the best bouquet out of the three vintages that finished the decade: cranberry, black truffle, autumn bonfire and roast chestnut. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture, fully mature with truffle infused red and black fruit, dovetailing into a smoky, hickory tinged finish that has good persistence. Fine, but don’t leave bottles too long in the cellar. Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property.

The 1990 offers an impressively saturated color, exhibiting a touch of amber and a black cherry, mineral, smoky component, with a dash of roasted herbs. Spicy, rich, long, and massive in the mouth, it is full-bodied, sweet, jammy, and capable of lasting for another 8-10 years. Last tasted, 5/01.

A wine with plenty of compact fruit and backbone.Good ruby color. Plenty of chocolate and berrycharacter on the nose. Full-bodied, with lots ofsilky tannins and a long, fresh finish. Willcontinue to improve. Drink now or hold.--1990Bordeaux retrospective. -James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2000
