Smoke, buttered toast, and pears can be found in the nose of the 2001 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet. A huge wine of sumptuous richness and breadth, it conquers the palate with dense layers of peaches, apricots, spices, and poached pears. (tasted from a new barrel) Smoky oak and grilled nuts on the nose. Rich, layered and fat, with uncanny sucrosity and major volume. Complicating note of bacon fat. This thick, creamy grand cru tastes almost sweet. Very long wine with great potential.

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
