Score 89/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jul 2015

This is the second time that I have tasted Quinta do Noval's 1947 Vintage Port, probably toward the end of its first "Golden Era." It has a deep tawny color. The nose offers vestiges of red cherry, marmalade, balsamic and wood resin, the fruit having almost completely ebbed away. The palate is harmonious with fine tannin. What is pleasing here is the silky smooth texture. No, there is not the complexity of a a great postwar Vintage Port but this elegiac bottle sported a lovely, almost Hermitage-like finish. This is a good example though there might be slightly better examples out there. Tasted May 2015.
